The rules and regulations listed below are intended to act as a guideline for correct behavior in and out of the dojang, or training hall. They are meant to preserve the dignity of traditional taekwondo, the training environment, the integrity of our curriculum, and the safety of the student. Failure to abide by these standards will result in a warning, revocation of rank, and possible suspension of membership. Repeated violations may result in expulsion from the academy. Please read these guidelines carefully and request clarification if there is a directive you do not understand.
Execute a bow of respect when entering or leaving the dojang.
Do not leave the training floor without permission from the instructor.
When first meeting a master, instructor, or assistant instructor, execute a bow of courtesy.
Proper respect should be displayed to all students holding higher rank.
Remove shoes before entering the dojang.
Make every effort to arrive on time for class.
If you arrive late, kneel and await permission from the instructor before entering.
Always wear a clean dobok (uniform) to class.
A regulation Chosun dobok must be worn when training.
A Chosun Taekwondo Academy patch must be worn on the left side of the dobok.
Wearing additional insignias or patches must be cleared with the head instructor.
Remove all jewelry before engaging in training.
Avoid unnecessary chatter when preparing for class.
Gum chewing, ingestion of liquids, and lounging is prohibited on the training floor.
Profanity, loss of temper, horseplay, or unnecessary talking will not be tolerated.
Strict attention and courtesy must be paid to the instructors at all times.
Observe a high degree of personal hygiene. Fingernails and toenails must be trimmed.
Each class will begin and end with a formal ritual including a bow to the flags.
Do not attempt to demonstrate or teach taekwondo techniques outside the dojang.
Taekwondo techniques should be applied only under circumstances of self-defense.
Students are authorized to practice only those techniques taught by the instructors.
Do not complain about strenuous training conditions.
Sparring of any kind is permitted only in the presence of an instructor.
Do not attempt to teach techniques unless qualified to assist.
Korean phrases are widely used during the course of instruction.
Commands given by the instructor are to be acknowledged with a firm “Yes Sir/Maam”.
Treat all school property with the highest respect.
While waiting for instruction, students should not cross arms or put hands on hips.
The “joombi” or “at ease” stance should be maintained while awaiting commands.
Students should exhibit exemplary behavior outside the dojang.
Exhibit a positive spirit during class.
Students must maintain self-control and a positive attitude during testing.
Any injury, no matter how minor, must be reported to the instructor.
The instructor must be made aware of any preexisting medical condition.
Cell phones and pagers should be turned off in the dojang.
Never degrade taekwondo or the reputation of the instructors or the school.
All students are required to maintain a Training Journal including Belt Requirements.
