Press Release: Master Cook's Book Signing

WARWICK MARTIAL ARTIST AUTHORS NEW BOOK
 BOOK SIGNING EVENT SCHEDULED FOR
7PM OCTOBER 25TH AT
THE BOOKSTORE 20 MAIN STREET WARWICK, NY

Following five years of intense research and study on
the part of the author, the book, Taekwondo. Ancient
Wisdom For the Modern Warrior, is about to be released
by martial arts publisher YMAA of Boston. The work,
written by Warwick resident, Doug Cook, head
instructor and owner of the Chosun Taekwondo Academy,
focuses on the application of martial arts principles,
techniques and ethical values in daily life. Reached
for comment, Cook, whose school is located at 62 Main
Street in the downtown business district of Warwick,
stated: "This book is not a manual on how to harm
another human being. Rather, it is an in-depth
commentary on how to build a strong character through
a disciplined study of Taekwondo. It also contains the
history and philosophy of this unique Korean martial
art, a description of what one should expect from
training, and a blueprint for cultivating the vital
life force known as Ki. Needless to say, I am
delighted with its release since it mirrors my
practical and philosophical outlook of the martial
arts."
Originally intended as a volume for the mature
practitioner, the book will benefit younger students
as well with its precise explanation of the various
components that go into making Taekwondo a holistic
pursuit, a vehicle for self-fulfillment, and an
effective means of self-defense. Likewise,
non-practitioners of the art will find the book useful
as an interpretive introduction to what the martial
arts represent in modern times. David Ripianzi,
director of YMAA Publications, added his thoughts by
saying: "this book is not only a "must read" for every
practitioner of any other martial art, but for
everyone who seeks to learn from our collective past
to better navigate through today's confusing times. We
are very pleased to welcome Mr. Cook as one of our
authors."
Doug Cook and Warwick merchant, Michael McDermott,
will jointly celebrate the release of the book with a
talk and booksigning to be held at 7:00pm on Thursday,
October 25th at The Bookstore at 20 Main Street in
Warwick. The talk will center on fear and how a
sincere study of Taekwondo can help cope with such
issues. Also covered will be a brief description of
the book's contents followed by a question and answer
period. Copies of Taekwondo.Ancient Wisdom For the
Modern Warrior will be available for sale at the
event.
Taekwondo is the most popular martial art in the world
today with over fifty million students practicing
throughout the globe. It is a fully-recognized Olympic
sport as well as a highly effective means of
self-defense. The Chosun Taekwondo Academy curriculum,
however, emphasizes the traditional aspects of
Taekwondo, not merely the sport, by cultivating
physical fitness and effective methods of self-defense
resulting in a greater sense of well-being. The school
also offers programs in Hatha Yoga, Cardio Kickboxing
and KickStart, a martial arts course for four and five
year-old children. For more information on the
book signing event or the Chosun Taekwondo Academy in
general, call (845) 986-2288 or The Bookstore at (845)
